Fact checking the speeches

So, you’ve heard the candidates speeches, maybe they inspired you. Maybe they didn’t.
But what about the facts? How accurate were those zingers the candidates threw out at their opponents?
Obama’s speech fact checked.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama accepted his party’s nomination Aug. 28, speaking before more than 84,000 people in Denver’s Mile High football stadium. Some [...]

Election quandry

Votehelp.org “analyzed” my political viewpoints and presented an interesting stat.
Barack Obama agrees with me 87% of the time.
John McCain agrees with me 81% of the time.
I’m sure those statements could be twisted in all sorts of ways - but makes me realize even more so how both of these candidates have gotten to where they [...]

Focus on the Family prays for a blessing on Obama

Church Marketing Sucks reports that the political arm of Focus on the Family, Focus on the Family Action (a registered 501-C4), is asking folks to pray for rain during Obama’s acceptance speech in Denver.
While rain sounds like a horrible way to kick off a campaign, a co-worker suggests that she’s always heard that rain is [...]

Quote for the day

“Religiously, the majority of America’s young are postmodern, which means they do faith like jazz: informal, eclectic, and often without theme. They have largely rejected organized religion in favor of a religious pastiche that works for them. They think nothing of hammering together a personal faith from widely differing religious traditions, and many acquire their [...]

Ron Paul ends his campaign

June 12, 2008 - Ron Paul has ended his campaign for President in 2008. Guess he wanted to out last Hillary on the campaign trail.
Still wish things had gone better for him. He was my next pick behind Mike Huckabee.

Sen. Barack Obama :: on faith (or why I liked him in the first place)

Back in October 2006 I shared a post that really turned me onto Barack Obama. I thought it was fitting to re-share this now that just about everyone has declared him the presumptive DNC nominee.
The story is an excerpt from a speech from which was delivered at the Sojourners/Call to Renewal-sponsored Pentecost conference in June [...]

Is your candidate running?

Folks are talking more and more and more about NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg possibly running for president.
Everywhere he goes folks are asking and so far he’s still saying “No.”
But how can we know for sure? I mean really?
NPR’s Robert Smith devised a simple solution that should work for any and all possible presidential candidates. Now [...]

Huckabee and Obama - BIG WINS

In case you missed it… Mike Huckabee won big on the Republican side and Barack Obama won big on the Democratic side in Iowa last night.
I think most of the anchors were going with the fact that both of these guys are outsiders - not your typical establishment. I can see that and agree. Even [...]
